Exu has many attributes, but one of the most beautiful was granted to him by the Supreme God – Olorum, in the act of creating the world. In mythology, Olorum divided the Cosmos into parts, giving one for each Orixá to exercise their sovereignty, with Exu being in charge of providing communication between human beings and the Orixás. A messenger between worlds, he is the bridge between the human and the divine and is often described as playful, mischievous, faithful, and fair. Exu holds a powerful staff called “Ogó,” which takes him in every direction, be it north, south, east, or west.
