Few writers (perhaps Mark Twain, Lewis Carroll, Ian McEwan) have managed to give us back the true voice of childhood, without falling into falsifications or distortions. In fact, in books written by adults, the words entrusted to children's voices often take on a strange artificial flavor, which makes them lose their freshness and originality.
So who can say that they have heard or read the true and direct voice of children? Few, in fact, very few, are adults who can respond positively to these questions, especially because, in world literature, children have certainly been the most gagged and silent subjects.
With regard to children, an authentic conspiracy of silence seems to have been put into action, perhaps unconsciously.
But children talk, they always have, even if their words have left no trace and have rarely been heard.
And even if children's words sometimes seem eerily similar to our own, they evoke distant, ignored worlds and meanings to which we adults are often deaf and insensitive.
Giving childhood a voice therefore means giving credit to children's right to be the primary authors of their own lives. Giving children the floor is the courageous adventure of this editorial publication that wants to encourage our ears to listen to this “non-existent voice”.
