THE BOOK
Sara Bertrand 's guard woman , illustrated by Alejandra Acosta , published in Brazil by Solisluna Editora and Selo Emília is a mysterious, unsettling, unique and surprising book. An enigmatic beauty, with eight double pages of illustrations that mark the beginning and end of the book. In between, around 70 pages tell a story made of reality and poetry.
With 96 pages, in hardcover, "The woman with the guard" received the important New Horizons / Bologna Ragazzi award in 2017, at the Bologna International Children's Book Fair in Italy.
Aimed at children and young people, the book tells the story of Jacinta, a girl who, after the death of her mother, still not fully understanding what happened, is worried about how she will breathe in the coffin, her aunts say that the best thing is for her to take care of your brothers. Jacinta remembers her mother how she stirred the milk to make it lump-free; She laughs with her brothers when her father comes home early from work and they have dinner together and he takes candy and treats out of her ears. Jacinta does not have a guardian angel but a woman who travels on her blue horse and who always watches over her.
Sara's book is inspired by the story of Achi Chokyi Drolma and is part of Tibetan folk tradition. A loving and protective grandmother, direct ancestor of the founder of the Drikung Kagyu lineage and full of healing powers. It's the woman who travels distances on horseback, that is, as fast as it can be done between the mountains and gorges of Tibet, she walks quickly because she doesn't want to stop helping those who need her, no matter how far away it is.
